Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Recommendation

People unsatisfied with the appearance of their nose, which might be too wide or the dorsum might be too deep, flat or absent are good candidates for nose surgery or Rhinoplasty. Some cases of a lost nose might also be treated by a nose surgery or Rhinoplasty.

Placed in the middle of the face, the nose is responsible for the balance of the face and should be carefully evaluated. When having a nose surgery or Rhinoplasty done, the main point is to achieve balance between the tip, the dorsum and the base, when compared to the rest of the face.

More than just achieving natural results, the goal nowadays is to perform less invasive techniques. The nose surgery or Rhinplasty procedure intends to fracture the nose a little as possible and to re-work it in a much more simple and natural way.

Treatment

When evaluating the patient, it is important to consider several aspects, such as malocclusion, which might influence on posture, articulation and even on chewing.

When evaluating the patient, it is important to consider several aspects, such as malocclusion, which might influence on posture, articulation and even chewing.

The functional aspect of the nose should also be considered. The correct position of teeth and lips improve the appearance of the nose and vice versa. The nose surgery or Rhinoplasty also works on improving the appearance of other areas.

This way, jaw asymmetry and a bad connection between the jaw and the maxilla might influence the lips, and correcting it might improve its appearance. The case of a gummy smile can be treated through a procedure of the maxilla or even a lip treatment, depending on each case and recommendation.

When correcting a wide nose or with a flat dorsum, cartilage grafting will be done, taken from patient's own body. The donor area is usually the septum, ears or even the ribs. After that, the cartilage will be reshaped until desired shape is achieved, always concerned about the most natural results as possible.

In case of partial or complete loss of the nose, a repair nose surgery or Rhinoplasty will be performed, together with a Reconstructive Micro Surgery.

Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. The change may be very obvious or very subtle, depending mainly on the thickness of your skin. Bone and cartilage are the structures that are generally modified in form during the nose surgery or Rhinoplasty. These structures underlie the skin covering of the nose; therefore, it is this skin covering that limits how apparent these modifications are to the Eye. nose surgery or Rhinoplasty can be performed to meet aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes, to correct birth defects or help with breathing problems.

Age may also be a consideration. Many surgeons prefer not to perform a nose surgery or Rhinoplasty on teenagers until after they have completed their growth spurt, around 14 or 15 for girls, a bit later for boys. It is important to consider teenager's social and emotional adjustment, too, and to make sure it is what they really want.

In the first few days following the Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery, when your face is bruised and swollen, it's easy to forget that you will look better. Don't worry; rest assured that this stage will pass. Day by day, your nose will begin to look better and your confidence will improve. Within a few weeks after the Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery, you will no longer look as if you've just had surgery. With that said, healing is a slow and gradual process. Some subtle swelling may be present for months, especially in the tip. The final results of the Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery may not be apparent for a year or more. If you have met your goals that were discussed in consultation previous to surgery, then your surgery will be a success.
